@Microsoft

For the third time this year, the AI Horizon R&D team collaborated with Microsoft in Munich. Below are the key takeaways from our visit:

1. Progress on Horizon App Version 2

The visit began with a focused session involving members of our R&D team, including Anna Wiewer, Sonja Kellner, Moritz Goeke, Marc Loewer, and Michael Jülich. Discussions covered developments in version 2 of the Horizon App, with updates such as:

  • Integration of Responsible AI and sustainability features.

  • Enhanced customization options for AI bots.

  • Deployment of fine-tuned models to improve performance.

  • Innovations in interaction design to enhance usability.

2. Academic Collaboration on Sustainability

A discussion with Prof. Christoph Kern from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München explored empirical validation of the app’s new sustainability features. This laid the groundwork for a collaborative project to strengthen the scientific basis of these tools.

3. Accessibility and Inclusion in AI

Franziska Sgoff presented on the importance of accessibility and inclusion in AI, emphasizing their role in the Responsible AI Framework. The discussion highlighted the need to address value conflicts and prioritize inclusivity as a key principle.

4. Exploring AI in Education

A dialogue with Philipp Peron centered on AI’s role in schools. Topics included image-based Turing tests, accountability, and the application of neural networks in educational contexts, offering new directions for future research and exploration.

5. Addressing AI and Data Security

A brainstorming session with Stephanus Schulte and Volker Leitzgen focused on AI and data security. The discussion reaffirmed the importance of developing robust and adaptable solutions in this critical area.

6. Refining the AI Horizon Narrative

Strategic conversations with Britt Peemoller, Melanie Cripe, and Sinead Shields focused on aligning the AI Horizon narrative with Microsoft’s Tech for Social Impact (TSI) initiatives. These discussions contributed to refining the project’s long-term vision.

Looking Ahead

This collaboration reinforced a shared commitment to innovation, responsibility, and inclusivity in AI. As development continues on Horizon App version 2, the partnerships and insights gained during this visit will play a pivotal role in shaping the project’s future direction.
